Pachira Lodge, Tortuguero (nights 3-4) 

Nestled within a 14-hectare private reserve on the outskirts of Tortuguero National Park, this immersive eco-lodge was designed to minimise disruption to the rainforest and its native fauna. There is an outdoor swimming pool, sun terraces and a restaurant, serving local and international cuisines, with a bar. Airy guestrooms are simply furnished and include fans, mosquito nets and private balconies.

La Foresta Nature Resort, Manuel Antonio (nights 12-14) 

This intimate eco-lodge, based in a 14-hectare rainforest, offers an outdoor swimming pool, a restaurant, which serves authentic Costa Rican cuisine, and a bar. The hotel also offers a range of fascinating nature trails. Cosy guestrooms are air-conditioned throughout and encompass TVs, safes and minifridges.
